Burger buns

Makes 6 large or 12 small buns

Prep time – 4 hours | cooking time – 15 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 700g strong white bread flour
  • 400ml milk
  • 50g butter
  • 20g salt
  • 20g sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 packet dried yeast

METHOD

  • Place the flour and the butter in a bowl and rub together
  • Add the salt, sugar and dried yeast and mix together
  • Slightly warm the milk and whisk the egg
  • Make a well in the flour and pour in the milk
  • Add the egg and mix thoroughly to form a dough, if the dough is to wet add a little more flour
  • Turn out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead thoroughly for 10 minutes
  • Return the dough to the bowl, cover with cling film and leave in a warm place until the dough has doubled in size
  • Turn the dough out onto the work surface and cut to size, this should make approximately 6 large burger buns
  • With your hand, roll each piece into a ball then press down and shape into a bun
  • Place on a lined baking sheet and leave to rise for another 30 minutes
  • Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds
  • Bake in a hot oven gas mark 8 for approximately 15 minutes until golden brown
  • Remove from oven and allow to cool
