The Telegraph: the definitive guide to drinking in London

“Unsurprisingly, if you want a drink in central London you’re spoiled for choice. The question is, what flavour of drink are you after? Something laidback and a little frayed around the edges? Or are you looking for a posh cocktail served on a high? From Soho institutions to iconic hotel bars, jazz clubs and classic ale pubs, you can find a tipple for every mood and occasion. Cheers!

Iris Bar at The Gherkin

The swanky bar with a view. London isn’t short of places to drink with a good view but try the bar at the very top of the Gherkin building for true wow factor. It used to be members only – not anymore. You can reserve a table in the geometric apex of the building for upscale, London-themed cocktails, Champagne (natch) and English sparkling wine (it’s the new Prosecco). Fun fact: the bar was named Iris because when the building is viewed from above it forms an iris shape that was designed by Foster to reflect the Gherkin’s place as the eye over the City.”
