The Gherkin Challenge

Searcys at the Gherkin

It is the 10th year that members of #TeamNSPCC will face their fears and climb the 1,037 stairs to the top of The Gherkin, to raise funds for the children’s charity. This year, the event will be held on Sunday 27 October and there are still places available for anyone who would like to join Searcys’ sprinters to take part in the challenge.

Over the past nine years, dedicated supporters have raised a total of £1.4 million. This could help fund NSPCC services such as the Speak Out. Stay Safe. programme which helps thousands of children understand the signs of abuse and neglect and who to talk to if they are worried. Each £250 raised could help the charity reach 83 primary school children.

Charlotte Thompson, NSPCC Senior Fundraiser, said: “The Gherkin Challenge is a great opportunity to push yourself and have fun, but at the same time help the NSPCC protect children from abuse. Each step of this fantastic challenge has helped to raise an incredible amount of money over the past nine years and we are really grateful to all our fundraisers. We will be there to encourage and support our ‘gherkineers’ along the way, and will celebrate with them at the top.”

Egla Dedushaj, Head of Sales at The Gherkin said: “We are very proud of our sprinters taking up this challenge to support a great cause. We are looking forward to greeting everyone at the finishing line with a well-deserved glass of fizz.”

Each challenger will be rewarded with an unmissable view of London and a glass or two of Champagne at Searcys at The Gherkin. They will also receive a finisher’s medal, snacks and the option to relax with a massage.

Gherkineers can challenge themselves to beat the standing record of reaching the summit of The Gherkin in just 4 minutes 48 seconds.

In the past nine years, entrees have clocked up a total of 5,800,978 steps – an equivalent of walking from The Gherkin to the Eiffel Tower 12 times.
