Leap year proposals
Legend has it that Leap Year proposals – which take place once every four years on 29th February – resulted from an Irish deal struck by St Patrick in the fifth century. According to folklore, women were allowed to break convention and propose to men on this one day.
To give a helping hand in the proposal department, we will be giving a totally free Magnum of Taittinger Brut Reserve Champagne to anyone, male of female, who plucks up the courage to get down on one knee and propose in The Gherkin that night. The Champagne gift is open to anyone dining in the restaurant that evening, where guests can enjoy a seasonally changing A La Carte menu using produce from around the British Isles, or indulge in a five-course tasting menu with matching wines. For those who want their loved ones around to witness the special moment, The Gherkin’s five private dining rooms are also available for the occasion. After the proposal, guests can enjoy their magnum in the panoramic Iris Bar on the top floor, with 360º views across London.
If you are wishing to propose at The Gherkin on Saturday 29 February, please let the team know in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org so we can put your magnum on ice!
